To be a mom is not a day’s job. EXACTLY! Who says moms can’t unwind and have fun?
It’s another summer where moms don’t have to worry about waking so early to fix breakfast and get their kids to school. This is the time to really bond with your children, relax and have fun. Super Cool, right?
But you just might be having a block and a hard time choosing which fun things to do this summer. No worries! Here are ten things all moms can do this summer holiday and have fun while doing them.
1. Sleep in
Yes! Sleep! YouYou
2. Cut Yourself Some Slack
You need to lose the rope and allow more latitude and freedom to yourself. There are a dozen things moms can do to unwind and lose the work mode. One of them is taking yourself out and trying a new restaurant maybe with hubby or by just yourself.
Taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be extravagant. Often, it’s the tiny ways you show yourself love that reflect back the most powerfully, and not just to you but to your kids, who are learning from you how to love themselves. It’s these small things you do that become your habits, that become your days, that become your years, that become your lives.
3. Host a girls’ night
In this age of social media and technology, not staying in touch because “you’re so busy” is simply not valid anymore. Maintaining relationships outside of your immediate family is totally doable, and I’ll tell you how to do it here.
Planning and spending quality time with friends is one way to show your love and have fun. It’s also a surefire way to evaluate the friendship and most likely determine if it’s worth your time and effort.
When you get together in person, you know there will be late nights of chatting, and there’s no pressure to do “everything” like see the sights or and hit up every kid-friendly activity. Oftentimes, you will spend at least one day just hanging out in your pyjamies, cooking and eating leisurely meals while the kids play together.
4. Exercise more days than not
The importance of exercising cannot be overemphasized. There are many reasons as to why you need to exercise. With exercising yo will sleep more soundly . There’s plenty of research that points to the fact that regular exercise helps you get to sleep faster and sleep more soundly than if you didn’t exercise. This won’t change the fact that your kids wake you up during the night, but chances are you’ll fall back to sleep faster after that happens.
It’s a good break from your kids. Yes, you need a break sometimes. Exercising is of course something you can do with your children and I encourage you to do that, but getting out alone to work out is good for you. If you really need a buddy, grab a friend to join you, but some all alone time is good for you.
5. Date Your Husband
When you’re a parent, the luxury of “couple time” tends to disappear in the delivery room. Post-kids, it can become hard to remember what it felt like to be “the two of you.” Getting enough couple time builds intimacy, opens communication and strengthens your bond, which in turn strengthens your marriage. Plus, it provides your kids with a good example for their own future relationships.
You can start by recreating your first date, having a fancy night in, steal away on a vacation or break a sweat together at the gym but whatever you do, date your husband. Remember that marriages are capable of change, and small changes can make big differences.
